What is Sex Therapy?

Some people need to work through complicated thoughts and feelings about their sexuality or gender identity.

What happens during a Sex Therapy session?

Sex Therapy is much like any other form of mental health counseling. Although there are different approaches to Sex Therapy, you can expect to sit and talk through your concerns with your therapist. This is a safe environment to bring up aspects of your sexuality that you may not have been able to discuss before. Some counselors assign homework for clients to work on at home.

Is sex therapy appropriate for children or adolescents?

Counselors follow clients’ lead and discuss topics at appropriate learning levels. Questioning different aspects of sexuality, and even gender, is a normal part of development. Sex Therapy can allow children and adolescents to talk about their feelings and gain confidence in who they are.
